In terms of insulation, there are three types of heat exchange, heat conduction, heat convection and heat radiation. The solid content of the aerogel material is usually one percent or less of the total volume, mostly air, and the thermal conductivity of air is smaller than most solid materials, so the aerogel heat conduction is weak. Moreover, the aerogel material is mainly composed of a mesoporous structure. When the pore diameter of the mesopores is smaller than the mean free path of the molecules in the air, the thermal convection of the air is lowered to a low level. Thermal convection heat transfer primarily transfers energy through collisions of molecules. The mean free path is the distance that each molecule in the air travels before it encounters another molecule. If the pore size is smaller than this value, that is, on average, the molecules in the air will hit the solid part of the aerogel before hitting another air molecule, so that the heat convection conduction heat can not be effectively achieved by molecular collision. Therefore, the efficiency of heat convection is greatly reduced. For thermal radiation, energy is mainly transmitted by infrared photons. However, the light is repeatedly reflected or refracted in the porous aerogel material. In this process, the energy of the infrared rays will be absorbed and cannot be conducted to the other side, thereby reducing heat radiation. Conductivity.
